June Chamber Festival to take place in Nevill Holt Opera’s RIBA Award-winning theatre
21, 22, 23, 24, 25 June at 7pm
A week-long festival will celebrate the return of music to NHO’s theatre. The five performances will be the first inside NHO’s award-winning theatre since the pandemic, following more than 2,000 people enjoying outside performances at Nevill Holt last summer. The festival will take place with a socially distanced audience – more information on our health and safety protocols for the events can be found here.
The June festival precedes NHO’s largest ever summer opera festival, which takes place from the 4th – 25th August, with La traviata and Don Giovanni performed on a specially built outdoor stage.
Monday 21st June, 7pm
Sun and Light
A programme of choral music to mark the summer solstice featuring members of the BBC Singers conducted by NHO’s Artistic Director, Nicholas Chalmers, and special guests Judith Weir and Petroc Trelawny.
The BBC Singers hold a unique place in British musical life, bringing an exceptional range of choral music to the widest audiences, with recent performances including music from Victoria, Tallis and Handel to Hillborg, Wallen and Weir. Members of the BBC Singers will sing a selection of music to mark the summer solstice based on the themes of Sun and Light. We are delighted to be joined by Master of the Queen’s Music, and past BBC Singers Composer in Association Judith Weir, who will be ‘in conversation’ with our host for the evening – BBC Radio 3’s Petroc Trelawny.
This concert will be recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3, the first ever broadcast from NHO’s new theatre.
Tuesday 22nd June, 7pm

Bounder and Cad
Troubadours of the Twitter age, musical-comedy duo Bounder & Cad have featured multiple times on BBC Radio, and were selected for BBC Radio 4 Extra Comedy Club’s Pick of The Year for two years running. Their monthly residency at top West End cabaret spot, Zédel’s Crazy Coqs Club, has sold out every performance for the past few years. They’ve performed for three princesses, two prime ministers, and one Tim Henham. Now they’re all too excited to be taking on Leicestershire…
At one memorable party at 10 Downing Street, an attempt was made to censor their mischievous lyrics – until they had the PM dancing! From Palazzo Corsini to Downton Abbey, and from Berkeley Square to Barbados, Bounder & Cad are quickly becoming the must-have performers at events around the world.
Thursday 24th June, 7pm

Exceptional brother-and-sister duo Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason, from “Britain’s most musical family” (The Times), visit Nevill Holt Opera for the first time. Few young instrumentalists have built such a formidable reputation while still in their early twenties. In this intimate chamber programme, they reunite to perform a concert of beautiful music by Bridge, Britten and Rachmaninov.
