A FIRST GLANCE AT NHO 2022.
In August 2021 we presented our largest and most ambitious opera festival yet. More people than ever before came to enjoy opera with us, hundreds of free tickets were taken up by under-18s and we were also delighted to welcome local NHS workers to enjoy our dress rehearsals, alongside students, staff and their families from the DRET Academy schools across the Midlands.
We are excited now to share some key dates and the booking details for our two 2022 opera productions, alongside a variety of further Nevill Holt Opera events and performances to look forward to.
In 2022 we will stage two new opera productions in our award-winning theatre – Puccini’s La bohème and Rossini’s The Barber of Seville – both of which will be performed in our new theatre for the very first time.
We are thrilled to welcome back directors Mathilda du Tillieul McNicol and Anna Morrissey to Nevill Holt Opera this summer. Mathilda du Tillieul McNicol, who assisted director Jamie Manton on NHO’s La traviata last summer, will direct La bohème. Mathilda is a freelance director who has worked on productions with Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Scottish Opera. The Barber of Seville will be directed by Anna Morrissey, an accomplished director of opera and dance who has also had her own theatre works performed on the West End. Anna worked with NHO on our production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2019.
Full details of the cast and creative team for each opera will be announced early in the new year.
Kicking off the festival and preceding the two operas will be a weekend of musical celebrations in the Nevill Holt gardens to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee on the 4 and 5 June.
Then, once the operas have finished, we will build on the success of our 2021 June Music Festival with a week of concerts and events inside the theatre in July. Performances will include opera, orchestral music, jazz and much more. We will be announcing the programme for the July festival of concerts and events ahead of general booking opening early in 2022.
With more music on offer than ever before, we can’t wait to fill our theatre with audiences once again.
