Nevill Holt Opera

We are looking for various roles in our Production & Technical team for this summer’s festival:

  • Head of Stage
  • Deputy Head of Stage
  • Production Assistant
  • Stage Technician x4
  • Wardrobe Assistant x2

Production Assistant:
Period of engagement:
Part-time basis from now. Full-time April – June.
You will be required to work closely with the Production & Technical Manager to prepare and run the Nevill Holt Opera 2022 season. This includes producing schedules, health and safety documents, purchasing and being the first point of contact for all technical departments. Pre-season you will be asked to assist in ensuring all designs are fulfilled to a high standard and all departments are prepared. During the season a more hands on approach is welcomed seeing through the rehearsals, fit-ups, stage rehearsals and moves.

Key Elements:

  • All of the below will be with the assistance of the Production & Technical Manager.
  • To produce technical schedules for the season.
  • To produce all health and safety documents.
  • To work alongside other managers in the support of technical recruitment.
  • To be present and assist with stage rehearsals.
  • To communicate with all technical departments for a smooth running of the season to the highest standard.
  • To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To be able to work at heights when required.
  • To work within all health and safety guidelines and Company policy.
  • To carry out all other duties where required.

Hours: You will be required to work weekdays and weekends.



Head of Stage:
Period of engagement:
Full-time 16th May – 10th July.
You will be required to take the lead in realising the technical requirements of the stage department. This includes running of productions and stage rehearsals, maintaining scenery, equipment and all technical areas of Nevill Holt Opera to the highest standard. Working with your technical department with handling scenery for fit-ups and running each opera along with the Deputy Head of Stage. You will also be required to work closely with the Production & Technical Manager to prepare the technical aspects of Nevill Holt for the Season.

Key Elements:

  • To lead with the Deputy Head of Stage fit-ups, get-ins, maintenance and all technical aspects of show production.
  • To lead a show team and carry out performance duties as necessary.
  • To work closely with other technical departments and the Production and Technical Manager in realising the technical needs of the season.
  • To maintain all backstage areas to the highest standard and keep all storage units in order.
  • To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To produce Stage Department schedules.
  • To be able to work at heights when required.
  • To undertake, if required, all manner of set refurbishment, painting, cleaning etc, and to assist in the maintenance of productions throughout their run.
  • To work within all health and safety guidelines and Company policy.
  • To carry out all other duties where required.

Hours: You will be required to work weekdays and weekends.



Deputy Head of Stage:
Period of engagement:
Full-time 16th May – 10th July.
You will be required to lead and work as part of a team in realising the technical requirements of the stage department. This includes running of productions and stage rehearsals, maintaining scenery, equipment and all technical areas of Nevill Holt Opera to the highest standard. Assisting with handling scenery for fit-ups and running each opera led by the Head of Stage. You will also be required along with the Head of Stage to work closely with the Production & Technical Manager to prepare the technical aspects of Nevill Holt for the Season.

Key Elements:

  • To lead fit-ups, get- ins, maintenance and all technical aspects of show production.
  • To lead a show team and carry out performance duties as necessary.
  • To work closely with other technical departments and the Production and Technical Manager in realising the technical needs of the season.
  • To maintain all backstage areas to the highest standard and keep all storage units in order.
  • To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To adhere to all schedules and follow the leadership of the Head of Stage.
  • To deputise for the Head of Stage when necessary.
  • To be able to work at heights when required.
  • To undertake, if required, all manner of set refurbishment, painting, cleaning etc, and to assist in the maintenance of productions throughout their run.
  • To follow instructions and complete all instructed tasks within the given time frame.
  • To work within all health and safety guidelines and Company policy.
  • To carry out all other duties where required.

Hours: You will be required to work weekdays and weekends.



Stage Technician x4:
Period of engagement for 2 positions:
Full-time 23rd May – 10th July.
Period of engagement for 2 positions: Full-time 13th June – 3rd July.
You will be required to work as part of a team in realising the technical requirements of the stage department. This includes running of productions and stage rehearsals, maintaining scenery, equipment and all technical areas of Nevill Holt Opera to the highest standard. Assisting with handling scenery for fit-ups and running each opera led by the Head of Stage and Deputy Head of Stage.

Key Elements:

  • To assist in fit-ups, get- ins, maintenance and all technical aspects of show production.
  • To be part of a show team and carry out performance duties as necessary.
  • To maintain all backstage areas to the highest standard and keep all storage units in order.
  • To work alongside others in a safe and efficient manner.
  • To adhere to all schedules and follow the leadership of the Head of Stage and Deputy Head of Stage.
  • To be able to work at heights when required.
  • To undertake, if required, all manner of set refurbishment, painting, cleaning etc, and to assist in the maintenance of productions throughout their run.
  • To follow instructions and complete all instructed tasks within the given time frame.
  • To work within all health and safety guidelines and Company policy.
  • To carry out all other duties where required.

Hours: You will be required to work weekdays and weekends.



Wardrobe Assistant x2:
Period of engagement: Full-time 30th May – 30th June.
You will be required to work closely with the wardrobe supervisors in the realisation and fulfilment of the wardrobe designs for each production to the highest standard.

Key Elements:

  • Assist the Wardrobe Supervisors during prep and rehearsals when required.
  • Perform pre-show costume and laundry checks, to ensure that costumes are correctly set in dressing rooms and quick change areas.
  • Assist assigned artist/s in and out of all costume requirements, pre, during and after performances.
  • Keep the Wardrobe Supervisors informed at all times of costume repairs and show running issues.
  • Offer artists any further assistance.
  • Update maintenance/cleaning requests in the repair book as required and carry out post performance costume and laundry returns, as required, promptly.
  • Be present at the dressing room or relevant quick change area at stage throughout the Opera, unless released by a Running Wardrobe team member.
  • Ensure good organisation of dressing rooms before during and after performances, in regard to: hanging of costumes on appropriate hangers, collection and distribution of laundry, checking for any repairs and cleaning required, including footwear and accessories.
  • Assist with the pairing of laundered accessories and pre-set costumes into Dressing rooms/float rails ready for another show.
  • Assist artists out of costume and hang costumes either in the Dressing room or on float rails. Return float rails to the costume store when directed.
  • Follow notes for an allocated dressing plot, and collect towels and washing baskets, as necessary.
  • Assist with the transfer of costumes between the Theatre and Costume Production during the rehearsal period.
  • Assist with any other duties as directed by the Wardrobe Supervisors.

Hours: You will be required to work weekdays and weekends.
